Well it’s official, after a six year absence Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) is officially back. So what network is going to air ECW? Sci Fi.
Now, one might wonder why there is wrestling on a network dedicated to science fiction. Then again, one might also wonder why there are live action tv shows on a cartoon network. There just is. :p Seriously though, this is cross promotion. Sci Fi has needed a rantings boost, so they’re trying things. The problem with Sci Fi is that to do a a science fiction show requires a lot of money for special effects. ECW won’t do that, plus it’ll bring a one hour live action television show to the network.
Now I’m sure this is confusing to non-wrestling fans, but if any wrestling federation has fans that like science fiction, it is ECW. ECW fans have been following it on the Internet since 1995 or earlier. They appreciate people that can tell the story of their match in the ring, rather then needing announcers and promos to tell a soap opera drama to get you to care about them. They’re your overly analytical Internet nerds. Yes, they like science fiction (and comic books). In a way, it makes sense for ECW to be on Sci Fi.
Am I happy about ECW being back? Maybe.
If ECW has to play by the same rules as Raw and Smackdown, then it’s just going to be like Woodstock 1999. ECW can’t have moves banned, can’t have every match wrestling the same basic style. It wasn’t what ECW was about before, it shouldn’t be what it’s about now. In a realistic sense, ECW should be booked as competition for TNA. Since WWE has a history of starting something cool that fans look forward to and then don’t deliver … let’s see how this goes.

The newly launched BLog@Newsarama announced that Cartoon Network has secured the rights to air Pee-Wee’s Playhouse on Adult Swim.
Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s late night sister network featuring animation and other programming aimed at adults 18-34, will air the groundbreaking series Monday-Thursday at 11 p.m. (ET, PT), airing all 45 original half-hour episodes of the series and the rarely-seen Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special. Many of the episodes have not been seen on TV since the original Saturday-morning run of Pee-wee’s Playhouse.
Still better the Tom Goes to the Mayors.

Well, it’s been quite a while since last I posted. If you had been paying attention, you’d have noticed that the number of posts I had been making prior to my last one had been slowing down. I figure now is an appropriate time to explain things.
About 10 weeks ago my grandmother was found to have a heart problem. She was having difficulty sleeping through the night, and upon visiting her doctor it was found that she had an 8 cm heart aneurysm. The doctors we had talked to said that in her condition that the aneurysm bursts at 6. After a very lengthy surgery, it took her a little over a week to open her eyes for the first time. She then spent weeks working to improve her breathing. At 4 weeks she was moved from Rochester General Hospital to Monroe Community Hospital. At MCH she to enter into long term care. There her breathing improved quite a bit, and during rehab she was slowly regaining some movement, and responded to smell. During this time period, my family was giving her flavored lip gloss to which she responded very favorably. The family was hopeful for a very long, drawn out recovery.
After a week at MCH, there was an episode where she was rushed back to RGH. The full extent from this episode was never really known, but it was suspected that it was hemorroids that were acting up. After a few days there, she was supposed to return to MCH, but due to a mix-up they gave away her room, and had none available. We were supposed to find her a new long-term care facility that could meet her needs, but in the mean time they gave us a packet which explained how the family should exercise her range of motion to keep her muscles from atrophy, and her breathing improved so much that she was breathing room air.
Then one month ago to today there was an episode around 4 in the morning to which her heart stopped beating. The doctors were not able to restart her heart. After weeks of recovery in which she missed my cousin Blake, my uncle Phil (her son), and her own birthday she had passed on.
I was incredibly close to my grandmother. Excluding things like some vacations, my internship last summer, etc. I had seen her for nearly every day of my entire life. While some in my family had gotten sick and could not see her for various reasons (none of them bad, so any family reading this don’t think I’m speaking lightly of you, I know you cared and would have been there if you could — I am merely saying I was lucky enough to be able to visit her so much) only my grandfather and I were able to make it up to the hospitals to check in on her every day. Her sickness and passing has been very hard on me and my family. Especially on Mother’s Day. π
I have been very lucky to have friends that have tried to help me out during this period of time. Christine has IMed me every day, as well as Daisy chatting when she can. Christine, Tristan, and Steve were able to make it to make it to the wake. Alicia and Steve were able to make it to the funeral. Alicia went for the burial. To all of you, I would like to offer my deepest and most heartfelt thanks. Your support during this time has been most appreciated.
Because of a miss understanding with the church that we had taken my grandmother to, I was not allowed to read the eulogy which I had prepared. I guess now is the most appropriate way for me to offer it.
My grandma was a kind and loving woman. She was always willing to do anything she could for you — be it through a gesture or kind words. I remember once back in the day when I was at my aunt and uncle’s home for a family get together and my grandpa had asked me if I was thirsty. I had said yes, so he went to get me something from the fridge. My grandma chastised him and took the pop from his hand and said “he is a big boy; he can get it all by himself”. She then proceeded to pour the pop into the glass my grandfather had gotten out for me until the drink was half full, and then put the pop away, and brought the glass to me. Now, I donΓ’β¬β’t know how that exactly qualified as me getting it all by myself, but it did show that she cared about me and would go out of her way to do anything to make me happy. I loved her for it. She was a wonderful woman, and IΓ’β¬β’m never going to be able to forget her. Thank you, grandma.
I have put up some pictures I have of my grandmother on Flickr. Additionally, I am linking to the news flash that was sent out by Monroe Community College. Also, here is the obituary that ran in the Democrat and Chronicle (edited slightly to make it standard compliant formating and to host the image on my server).

In a giant WTF moment, NBC has okayed the development of 30 new episodes of Saved by the Bell.
How the bloody heck can Saved by the Bell do so well in the ratings that it is getting brought back after only being shown for a week, while Futurama has been on for years with great ratings and only have had TALKS about coming back with new episodes or movies. Does anyone want to see new episodes of this show?
Well, now we know why they this show has been running on Adult Swim. So sad. π

It looks like Rochester was too entralled with all of the national press that it received over the whole J-Mac debacle. So what do we do? We suspend a student for taking Advil. Hey, it made it onto the main page of Fark!
Is drug abuse a serious problem with some kids? Yes. Is something like this a problem? Probably not. Is the school just trying to cover its own butt? Clearly. Are zero tolerance laws stupid? Yes.
That said, the argument can be made that both the student and the parents knew the rule, so they should not act surprised when it is actually enforced. To this I say “rubbish”! This is definitely bad policy.
I don’t know what saddens me more, the fact that we’re living in a society where schools feel the need to write rules like this to cover for themselves, or that no one fights these rules when they are made. Why do we just sit on our duffs and allow poor rules, or laws, to get made and THEN fight them once they pass? Why not stop them problems before they start?

The point of today is to show off your <body>.
For those unfamiliar with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), CSS files are how web savy Web masters control the look of their site. There are different rules of thought the order which different sections of your site should be displayed (e.g. should navigation go before the actual content?), but essentially removing ally styling should linearize the page. Since it looks like my new part time job at Monroe Community College (MCC) will not give me much opportunity to show off my Web standards design skills, I’ll get my kick right here. π
Oh, an interesting thing that my friend Christine pointed out to me is that earlier today was 01:02:03 04/05/06 — the first hour, second minute, third second on April (the fourth month) fifth in 06. For those outside of the United States, that is how we typically list our time and date.

It’s that time again for my predictions for the upcoming WWE pay per view.
- Triple H to win the WWE championship from John Cena
- Rey Mysterio to win the World Heavyweight title in a match against Randy Orton and the champion Kurt Angle
- Shawn Michaels to defeat Vince McMahon in a no holds barred match
- The Nature Boy Ric Flair over Shelton Benjamin, Rob Van Dam, Matt Hardy, Finlay, and Lashley in a Money in the Bank match
- The Undertaker to continue his winning streak in a casket match against Mark Henry
- Mick Foley beats Edge in a hardcore match
- Chris Benoit retains his US championship when he faces JBL
- Carlito and Chris Masters obtain the World tag team titles by defeating Kane and the Big Show
- Mickie James defeats her role model/obsession Trish Stratus for the Women’s Championship
- Booker T and Sharmel beat the Boogeyman
- Torrie Wilson over Candice Michelle in a Playboy pillow fight
The last two predictions are really a toss up as the matches mean nothing and are just used to cool the crowd down between some matches or warm up the crowd at the start. That said, it would be a shame if Booker actually did the job to the Boogeyman. I see Mysterio pinning Randy Orton to get heat back from the last PPV. Part of me would like to see Flair immediately challenge and defeat Triple H for the title after he wins it from Cena. WWE has been building to one more run for Flair, so I can see this happening. If Flair doesn’t win that match, I would prefer the following order for people to win: Matt Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Shelton Benjamin, Finlay, Lashley. If Rey doesn’t win the World title, I hope Kurt retains it.

The New York Post reports that two Pakistani surgeons removed two fetuses from a two month old baby girl.
“It is extremely rare to have two fetuses being discovered inside another,” Abbasi told The Associated Press, adding that he did not know what caused the medical abnormality.
You don’t say. Here I thought I was reading a news article about an ordinary, every day occurrence, such as I am wont to do. BTW, did you know that Web sites regularly target Internet Explorer’s poor security?
Other fetus-in-fetu cases have been reported elsewhere in the world. A report in a June 2000 issue of the U.S. journal Pediatrics called such occurrences rare and estimated their rate at about 1 per 500,000 births.
Must be nice to be able to tell a child when they’ve grown up that they were officially two in a million? I’m sure those parents must be proud.

In an article in Contact Music Sharon Stone declared that she was an advocate for teenage oral sex.
“I was in the store the other day and I watched a young girl trying on clothes, showing her abdomen. “Her mother was trying to talk to her about not being inappropriately luring. I said, ‘Gee that would look much nicer with a camisole under.’ “Her mother walked away, and I said to the girl, ‘I’d like to give you a two-minute conversation about sex.’ “Young people talk to me about what to do if they’re being pressed for sex? I tell them (what I believe): oral sex is a hundred times safer than vaginal or anal sex. “If you’re in a situation where you cannot get out of sex, offer a blow job. I’m not embarrassed to tell them.”
Let me reitterate: If you’re in a situation where you cannot get out of sex, offer a blow job.
. What exactly is this type of situation? Normally when a person has to have sex when they do not wish to, isn’t it called rape? Is she talking about “pity sex”? Do people really actually have that? Am I just so sheltered/such a loser that I’m completely out of the loop here? Someone wanna help me out here?
Perhaps this is just another instance of a b-list movie star saying something sensational because she has a movie coming out? Could that be it?

About a year or two ago, my mother purchased a Samsung SCD23 digital camera. I had been doing research on what I wanted in a new digital camera and would not have chosen this camera myself, but my mother is an idiot, yadda yadda yadda, she walked out of Radioshack with one.
Last week I was over at my friend Christine’s place to take pictures of some of her excellent jewelry. While taking pictures the view screen decided to go all black. I tried to look through the eyepiece but it was all static-y. I messed around with it, turning it on and off in many different ways, and after a few minutes it decided to work again. I was a bit annoyed, but didn’t think that much of it.
A few days later I would use the camera again to take some pictures of stuff for listing stuff for my comic guy on ebay. No problems there. Yaaaa. Must be all better, right?
Nope.
I went to use the camera today for listing this week’s stuff. Got the first item all lined up in my view screen, was about to press the button to take the picture and BOOM stupid screen is all black again. I had to take this week’s pictures on my stupid camera phone. Now I gotta figure out how to get pictures off of there. Grr.
Annoyed, I searched the Interweb to see if there was some trouble shooting to fix this and I found out that this is not an isolated incident. It seems that was an industry-wide problem with digital cameras produced from some time in 2002 to some time in 2004 had faulty CCD. To take this in to get fixed should cost about $150.
Canon, Fujifilm, Konica Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Ricoh, and Sony have already agreed to repair the problem free of charge, including shipping, regardless of warranty status. Samsung is the ONLY remaining major camcorder manufacturer who has not yet issued a recall/free repair offer.
Because Samsung has been the only hold out from fixing this issue, so some irate owner is setting up a class-action lawsuit. Do I think it’ll go anywhere? Nope. Am I annoyed that I’m out of a digital camera? Yup. π
